The Splash Pad Closes Around Labor Day. The Other Twenty-Nine Acres Stay Open All Winter.

By The Magnolia Standard · August 28, 2026

Thirty acres, two and a half miles of trail, a skate park, an amphitheater, and at least one alligator. Most people in town have only ever used the parking lot nearest the playground.

The splash pad at Unity Park runs from about Memorial Day to about Labor Day. Labor Day is September 7 this year, which puts the last reliable weekend for it roughly a week out.

Worth knowing if you have small kids and had been meaning to get around to it. Also worth knowing because the splash pad is the part of that park most families think the park is.

It is not. Unity Park, at 19450 Unity Park Drive, is 30 acres, and the city runs it as a combination municipal park and wildlife preserve. That second half of the description is doing real work.

What is actually out there

Two and a half miles of walking trails, with bridges and observation piers over the wetlands. A skateboard park. A volleyball court and a horseshoe pit. An open amphitheater. A playground. A covered pavilion, 75 feet by 100, with restrooms and a kitchen, plus smaller pavilions and picnic areas.

None of that closes in September. Trails in this part of Texas are better in November than they are in July, and the wetlands are more interesting once the heat breaks.

About the wildlife preserve part. Alligators have been sighted in the wetlands at Unity Park, and every animal inside a city park preserve is protected. That is not a warning so much as a description of what the place is. You are walking piers over a wetland in Montgomery County. Keep an eye on small children and dogs near the water, the same as you would anywhere else out here, and leave the animals alone.

The pavilion nobody seems to know rents

The big covered pavilion is available to reserve for small events. Birthday parties, family reunions, a picnic that outgrew somebody's backyard.

A half day, with a four-hour minimum, is $250. A full day is $500. There is a kitchen and there are restrooms, which is the difference between a park pavilion and an actual venue.

Set that against what a private hall runs in this county for a Saturday and the number looks different than it does in isolation. For a fiftieth anniversary or a graduation party, a covered 7,500-square-foot pavilion with a kitchen at $500 for the day is not the expensive option.

Reservations go through the city. The listed contact is Crystal Supak, at (281) 356-2266, option 2, or csupak@cityofmagnolia.com. Fall Saturdays are the ones that go first, so a call in August is worth more than a call in October.

A town this size having 30 acres like that is not ordinary. The splash pad closing is a good excuse to go find the rest of it.

The park address of 19450 Unity Park Drive is as listed publicly; note that Montgomery County Precinct 2's office sits separately at 19110 Unity Park Drive. Rental rates and the splash pad's closing date are the city's and can change. The comparison to private hall rental is this paper's characterization, not a quoted figure.
