Montgomery Hangs Quilts All Over Its Old Downtown on October 16 and 17. The Biggest Room Is a Church on Pond Street.

By The Magnolia Standard · October 9, 2026

Two days of quilts spread across the old downtown, and a sanctuary a congregation is lending out to hold dozens more.

Next weekend, the old part of Montgomery turns into a gallery with no walls. The Montgomery Quilt Walk runs Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Quilters from around the area hang their work across the historic downtown, and visitors walk from one to the next.

The organizers lean on what the town already has. Their call for entries lists historic homes, old commercial buildings and a pioneer park as display space. Modern quilts hang beside traditional ones. Anyone can walk it.

The sanctuary

The largest single display is inside the historic church at 309 Pond Street. Townspeople still call it the Old Methodist Church. Living Savior Lutheran Church meets there now, and the congregation is partnering with the walk to turn the sanctuary into the backdrop for dozens of quilts.

There will also be vendors and a quilt raffle. The city's notice, posted September 24, lists no admission price.

Make a Saturday of it

Saturday stacks up. The Montgomery Historical Society's cemetery tour, Voices from the Past, runs from noon to 3 p.m. the same day. One of its two stops, the Old Methodist churchyard cemetery founded in 1838, is at Pond Street and Eva Street, on the same street as the church full of quilts. Reenactors tell the stories of the people buried there, including a 1941 Yankee. That tour is free.

If you can get there Thursday, the city's calendar lists a Sip N Stroll presented by Rustic Cashmere on October 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Before you go

  • Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Historic downtown Montgomery, with the main indoor display at 309 Pond Street.
  • Eva Street is Highway 105 through the old downtown, and Pond Street crosses it.
  • Quilters who want a piece in the show submit it through the form on montgomeryquiltwalk.com. The city is also asking for volunteers.
  • Questions go to the organizers through the contact page on that site.

Wear walking shoes. Much of the show is spread across downtown, and the stops are on foot.
