The New 4-H Year Opens August 15. Robotics and Photography Count Too.

Eleven days out. If you have a kid who is curious about anything at all, this is the cheapest door in the county.
Montgomery County 4-H opens its rolls for the new year on August 15. The 4-H year itself runs September 1 through August 31, so a family joining this month is joining at the start of the whole cycle rather than partway through somebody else's.
Most families in Greater Magnolia get one thing wrong about it. 4-H is not only a livestock program. The county lists projects in dog training, shooting sports, food science, healthy living, robotics, fashion and photography. A kid who has never touched a show halter can spend a year building robots or learning to shoot a camera and be exactly as much a 4-H member as the kid raising a steer.
The cost is the other surprise. Participation runs $25 per member for the year if the family enrolls by October 31. After that date it goes to $30. Clover Kids, the youngest group, pay no participation fee at all. Whatever a year of youth programming costs in this county, that is not the number people expect.
Families sign on through the state system, 4-H Connect, at texas.4honline.com. A family profile comes first, then a member profile for each child, then the fee. A household that already knows which club it wants can be done in a sitting.
Two practical notes from the county's own guidance. If your enrollment status still reads "Pending" after two or three weeks, call the office rather than waiting it out. And a family living outside Montgomery County that wants into a Montgomery County club needs a Request to Transfer form, which is a step to ask the office about rather than a barrier.
The 4-H office sits at 9020 Airport Road in Conroe, open Monday through Friday, 8 to noon and 1 to 5. The number is 936-539-7823. It is a drive from Magnolia, and the enrollment itself is online, so most of this can be handled from the kitchen table.
Where the year lands is the Montgomery County Fair, April 8 through 18, 2027, out at the fairgrounds in Conroe. That fair is also the county's scholarship engine. The Fair Association says it has awarded more than $2 million to graduating Montgomery County high school seniors since 1993. Its Bustin' Clays fundraiser is set for September 19 at Blackwood Sporting Co. in Conroe, starting at 8 a.m.
Eight months is a long runway for a kid who signs up in August. It is a short one for a kid who signs up in February.
