The Soap Shop on 1488 Changed Its Name. Today It Cuts the Ribbon Again.

Changing the sign is the easy part. Getting people to walk back through a door they already know is the rest of it.
Magnolia Bath and Soap Co. announced in May that it was becoming Magnolia Ritual, a Texas apothecary. On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. the shop at 6318 FM 1488, Suite 110, holds a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting under the new name.
It is the same family, the same suite, and the same people making the soap.
A rename is a risk for a small retailer and most owners know it. Every bit of word of mouth built up over years is attached to the old name. Somebody who bought a gift there in 2024 and wants another one is going to search for the phrase they remember. The business is betting that a tighter idea of what it sells is worth more than the recognition it gives up.
What it sells did narrow. The shop describes its focus now as bath, body and home goods made from plant-based ingredients, still handmade, still family owned. Soap, candles, the things people buy for themselves in small quantities and for other people around the holidays.
The company said in May that customer rewards, gift cards, local partnerships and existing fundraisers would carry over without interruption. That last one is the detail worth noticing. Shops like this one run fundraisers for schools and teams and churches, and a rebrand is exactly the moment those quietly stop. This one said up front that they would not.
The store is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The number is (713) 766-2889. It also runs workshops, including candle pouring, which is a different reason to go than buying something off a shelf.
Magnolia has a long stretch of national retail along 1488 and a shorter list of places where the person who made the thing is standing behind the counter. Today at 11:30 is a scissors-and-ribbon photograph. The part that decides whether a shop like this is still here in five years happens on the ordinary Thursdays after it.
