The Magnolia ISD Back-to-School Countdown: Every Date Before Aug. 12

By The Magnolia Standard · July 17, 2026

The first day is Wednesday, Aug. 12. A short list of dates stands between now and then, and most of them land in the last two weeks of July and the first week of August.

The first day of school in Magnolia ISD lands on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Between now and then, families have a handful of dates that actually matter, and they cluster fast in the back half of July and the first week of August. This is the countdown, in the order each deadline arrives, so nothing sneaks up on you.

First up is enrollment. Returning students need their enrollment verified through the Frontline Parent Portal by July 31. Do this even if nothing about your child's information has changed. It confirms the district has the right contact details, and getting it done early keeps the start of the year clear of paperwork snags.

Free and reduced-price meal applications open online Aug. 1. A new application is required every school year, so a family that qualified last spring starts fresh this fall. Applying in that first week means the benefit is in place before the first lunch line on Aug. 12.

Texas holds its sales-tax holiday Aug. 7 through 9. Clothes, shoes, backpacks, and most school supplies priced under $100 per item are tax-free that weekend. For a family shopping for more than one kid, the savings add up quickly. Plan the big supply run for those three days.

Several campuses run kinder camps and kickoffs to ease the youngest students in before the full crowd arrives. Audubon holds its "Bubble Bash" on July 16. Nichols Sawmill runs "Scribbles & Stories" on July 15. A group of campuses hold Kinder Camp on July 21, Williams has "Kickoff to Kinder" on July 27, and Bear Branch closes out the month with a "Kinder Kick-off" on July 28. Times vary by campus, so confirm yours on the district site.

The first week of August brings schedule pickups for older students. Intermediate and junior high campuses hand out schedules Aug. 6, with Bear Branch Junior High a day earlier on Aug. 5. Elementary families get Meet the Teacher on Aug. 10.

High schoolers have their own kickoff days. Magnolia High School runs "Bulldog Day" in two waves: incoming ninth graders on Aug. 8, then grades 10 through 12 on Aug. 10. Magnolia West holds "Mustang Day" on Aug. 5. These are the days to walk the halls, find a locker, and trade a summer schedule for a school one.

Then it is the first day, Wednesday, Aug. 12. Campus-specific times for every one of these events live on the district website, and that is the version to trust if a date or time shifts. Mark the calendar now, and the morning of the 12th will feel a lot less rushed.
