The Magnolia Campus Just Started Its First Fall. Weekend Classes Have Not Started Yet.
By The Magnolia Standard · August 25, 2026
A college campus opened here in January. Monday was the first time it filled up for a fall.
Lone Star College started fall classes on Monday, August 24. For most of the system that is an ordinary date on an ordinary calendar. For the campus on Escondido Drive it is the first one that counts, because the Magnolia Center opened in January and a spring opening is a soft launch. Fall is when a college finds out what it actually is.
The building is 85,000 square feet on 15 acres, at 1280 Escondido Drive. Most people in town have driven past the site for two years without knowing what was going up.
What happens inside is narrower than a full campus and more useful than that sounds. There are associate degrees meant to transfer into a four-year university, so a student can do two years here at community college prices and finish somewhere else. There is a workforce certification in HVAC and refrigeration. There is an associate of applied science in emergency medical services.
Those last two are not accidents. Air conditioning work and ambulance work are both jobs you cannot outsource and cannot do remotely, and both are in permanent demand in a county adding rooftops this fast. A student can finish either one and go to work inside Montgomery County.
If you missed Monday
Weekend and Friday sections have not met yet. Those start August 28 through August 30, which means the sections that exist for people holding down a job have not had a first class.
That matters more than it sounds. The people most likely to enroll at a campus like this one are working adults who cannot sit in a Tuesday morning lecture, and their semester has not begun. If you have been thinking about it since January and let the summer go by, the door has not shut.
The center's number is 346.654.7100 and the email is lsc-magnoliacenter@lonestar.edu. Advising and admissions staff are on site rather than an hour away in Conroe or The Woodlands, which was most of the point of building it here.
A few dates worth writing down. The system closes for Labor Day from September 5 through 7. Final exams run December 7 through 13, and the semester ends December 13.
Fifteen acres of parking lot and classrooms is a strange thing for a town to acquire. Magnolia has had one since January. This is the semester it gets used the way it was designed to be used.
