The Weekend Closure Ended. The One at 1774 Runs Through August 16.

By The Magnolia Standard · August 4, 2026

Twelve more days at the crossroads. If you assumed the barricades came down Sunday night, they did not.

We told readers on Friday that the railroad crossing at FM 1488 and FM 1774 would close August 1 to August 2 for a traffic switch and Union Pacific work. That part is over. At 6:15 that same Friday evening the city posted a second notice, and it is the one that matters this week.

FM 1774 is closed at the FM 1488 northbound intersection from August 1 through August 16, so crews can prep and pour pavement. Sixteen days, not two. The city attached a traffic control plan to the notice.

The practical effect is that the crossroads is still a construction zone on the day you are reading this, with roughly twelve days left on the posted window. Anyone who read last week's notice, marked August 2 as the end of it and has not checked since is working from the wrong date.

Pouring pavement is also the kind of work that does not negotiate with weather. Concrete has a schedule of its own, and an August thunderstorm can push a pour by a day or more. Treat August 16 as the plan rather than the promise. The city's notice, with the traffic control plan attached, stays the version to trust over anything secondhand.

For people running the school-prep errands right now, the timing is worth noting on its own. Magnolia ISD students go back on August 12, inside this closure window. The morning routes through that intersection are about to get their heaviest test of the summer while a lane configuration is still temporary.

Build the extra minutes in. Then keep building them in until you see the striping.

Editor's note: we chose straight reporting because this is a published municipal notice with fixed dates. We are also flagging plainly that this follows our July 31 story on the two-day railroad closure at the same intersection. It is a second, longer closure with its own notice and its own end date, not a rerun of the first.

The August 12 start date for Magnolia ISD is from the district's board-approved 2026-27 academic calendar. Road reports and corrections to newsroom@themagnoliastandard.news.
