The Railroad Crossing at 1488 and 1774 Closes This Weekend

Two days, at the crossroads the whole town drives through. Plan the errand run accordingly.
The road will be closed at the railroad tracks where FM 1488 and FM 1774 intersect from August 1 to August 2. The city posted the notice on July 27. The reason is a traffic switch and work at the Union Pacific Railroad, and a traffic control plan is attached to the city's notice.
If you have lived here any length of time you already understand why this one matters more than an ordinary lane closure. That intersection is the middle of Magnolia. Old Town sits on it. It is how people get from the 1488 corridor to the north side of town and back, and there is no elegant way around it.
A traffic switch means crews are moving traffic onto a different alignment, usually a newly built section, so the next stage of work can start on the old one. It is a normal step in a road job of this size. Doing it at a live railroad crossing is why the road has to close rather than narrow.
Saturday and Sunday are deliberate. It is the choice that keeps the closure off a school run and off a weekday commute. It does land on a weekend, which is when a lot of Magnolia does its shopping, its church setup and its youth sports. Build the extra minutes in.
Anyone routing around it should give the detour honest thought before Saturday morning rather than at the barricade. Traffic control plans do occasionally shift, and weather can move a rail crew's schedule. The city's notice, with the plan attached, is the version to trust.
