Free on Halloween, and the Cover Charge Is a Box of Cereal
By The Magnolia Standard · September 8, 2026
It is seven weeks out, which is exactly the right amount of notice for the kind of thing that gets forgotten until the day before.
Fall Fest lands on Saturday, October 31, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Magnolia Event Center, 11659 FM 1488. It is a free family fair on Halloween itself, put on by the Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, with local vendors, activities and the ordinary business of a town spending an afternoon together.
The detail worth writing down is the donation. They are collecting cereal and jelly at the door for the Society of Samaritans' Snack Shack, which feeds children over the Thanksgiving and Christmas school breaks. Not money. Cereal and jelly.
There is something clarifying about an ask that specific. A general call for donations asks you to work out what is needed and how much and whether it helps. Two grocery items on the way to a free party asks nothing of the sort. You already know where to get them and roughly what they cost, and a box in your hand is measurably one box more than the shelf had.
Society of Samaritans has run out of Friendship Drive since 1986, mostly on volunteer hours. School breaks are the awkward gap in feeding kids, because the meals that come with a school day stop for two weeks and the need does not.
The event is underwritten by Houston Methodist. Vendor and sponsor questions go to the chamber office at 281-356-1488.
Seven weeks is enough time to put it on the calendar and forget it, so here is the short version to write down now: October 31, 11 to 4, FM 1488, free, bring cereal.
