Eighty People, a Full Kitchen, and $200. What the County Building in Dobbin Actually Rents For.
By The Magnolia Standard · August 18, 2026
Quinceañeras, funerals, reunions, 4-H meetings. People out this way need a room with a kitchen, and the county owns one on 1486.
The Dobbin Community Center sits at 695 South FM 1486, about two miles south of Highway 105. The building runs 1,200 square feet, with a main room of 1,131 of those. It holds 80 people. There is a full kitchen, two bathrooms, ten tables at eight feet each, and 60 chairs.
It rents for $200. The deposit is $500 and it comes back to you, assuming the room is left clean and undamaged.
That is the whole story, and the reason to print it is that county facility information is scattered across several websites and most people never find the price at all. A room that holds 80 with a kitchen attached is hard to come by out here at any price. Knowing it exists is most of the value.
Reservations go through the facility coordinator at 936-597-5231, weekdays from 8 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon.
One detail that trips people up. Dobbin is in Precinct 1, under Commissioner Robert C. Walker. Earlier this month we wrote about the public buildings on Friendship Drive and Melton Street, which are Precinct 2. Different precinct, different commissioner, different office to call. If you have been dialing the Magnolia number and getting nowhere on a Dobbin booking, that is probably why.
The mailing address is another one. Dobbin's address reads Montgomery, Texas, 77316, even though nobody out there would tell you they live in Montgomery. That is a post office boundary, not a community one, and it is worth knowing when a form asks you for a city.
Book early for the fall. Between homecoming season, hunting season and the holidays, a cheap room with a kitchen does not stay open on a calendar for long.
Sources: Montgomery County Precinct 1's own community centers listing for the Dobbin address, capacity, square footage, kitchen, tables and chairs, the $200 rental and the refundable $500 deposit, the reservation phone number and office hours, and the commissioner's name. Note for readers: the county's parks page and the Precinct 1 page currently list different names for the facility coordinator at the same phone number, so ask for the coordinator rather than a person. Rates and availability are the county's to confirm. Corrections to newsroom@themagnoliastandard.news.
