Your November Ballot Starts in October: The Dates Montgomery County Voters Need
By The Magnolia Standard · July 14, 2026
Election Day is still months out. The deadline that decides whether you get to be there is closer than you think.
The Texas general election lands on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That is the day for the statewide and county races that actually run the place you live. But there is an earlier date that matters more, because it is the one you can miss without noticing: to vote in November, you have to be registered by Monday, October 5.
Texas law sets the registration deadline at 30 days before an election. Miss it and you do not vote this round, no matter how strongly you feel on November 3. If you have moved, changed your name, or are not sure your registration is current, that is the thing to check now, not the week of the election.
Early voting runs Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 30. That two-week window is the easy way to do it. In Texas you can vote at any early-voting location in the county where you are registered, so you are not tied to one precinct building or one bad afternoon. If you would rather vote by mail and you qualify, the county has to receive your application for a mail ballot by October 23 for it to work on time.
The office that runs all of this is Montgomery County Elections. You can reach them at (936) 539-7843, or check your registration and find locations at MontgomeryVotes.org. The Standard will print the full early-voting location list and the local races closer to the window. For now, the job is small and it is yours: make sure you are registered before October 5.
